Table tennis (the official name of the sport in China is ping pong - 乐乓) is today the largest amateur sport in China with 300 million players and is considered China's national sport. The Chinese national table tennis players are the most successful players in the history of the world championships.

This game, like many other ball games, is thought to be a variation of very old games that existed in the oldest civilizations, especially in China.
