A Lecture on Tea and the Chinese Culture

On 14 April 2025, the Confucius Institute at the University of Banja Luka organised a lecture given by Chen Xiu, Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Novi Sad, entitled "Tea and the Chinese Culture".

In the one-hour lecture, which was dedicated to the International Chinese Language Day, Professor Chen talked about China as the homeland of tea, the role of tea in Chinese society throughout history, its meaning and symbolism in different circumstances, as well as the ceremony of preparing and serving this medicinal drink, which is still an indispensable part of Chinese culture and many everyday and festive occasions. The audience also had the opportunity to enjoy a tea ceremony performed by representatives of the Confucius Institute at the University of Novi Sad.

Chinese was established as an official language of the United Nations in 1946. In 1973, the General Assembly included Chinese as a working language, which was followed by the Security Council in 1974.
