Art Competition Among Primary and Secondary School Students Dedicated to the Year of the Rabbit

In honour of the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Rabbit, the Confucius Institute at the

University of Banja Luka organized an art competition for primary and secondary school students, held in February and March this year.


More than 600 students from a dozen different schools across the country participated in this contest and many of them were awarded.


Chinese New Year, also called Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, is the most important holiday in China to mark the end of winter and the beginning of spring.

Today, it is not only celebrated in China, but also in many cities around the world with lavish fireworks, lion or dragon dancing, red lanterns, which are a symbol of the desire for happiness and prosperity, as well as other cultural and artistic events. In this way, other nations are given the opportunity to feel the charm of Chinese tradition and culture.

Awards in the category of secondary schools:

The three main awards were presented to: Anja Skenderija, student of thefourth grade ofCivil Engineering Secondary School in Banja Luka; Marija Omčikus, student of the fourth grade of theGrammar School in Banja Luka; Miloš Dvizac, student of the first grade of the Technology Secondary School in Banja Luka.


Special awards for creativity were presented to: Jelena Jurić, student of the third grade of theTechnology Secondary School in Banja Luka; Jovana Jelić, student ofthe second grade of the Catering and Trade Secondary School in Doboj; Katarina Omčikus, student ofthe first grade of the Grammar School in Banja Luka; Marina Cvijanović, student of the third grade of ‘Petar Kočić’ Secondary School in Srbac; Mateja Anđić, student ofthe second grade of ‘Ivan Goran Kovačić’ Art Secondary School in Kiesljak; Teodora Gojković, student of the fourth grade of the Civil Engineering Secondary School in Banja Luka; Todor Jorgić, student of the third grade of Technology Secondary School in Banja Luka; Lana Solomun, Sofija Tešanović, Nađa Umićević, Isidora Sekulić and Iris Vukoman, students of the first grade of the Catholic Grammar School in Banja Luka.


In the category of primary schools from the seventh to the ninth grades:

The three main awards were presented to: Ivana Božić, student of the ninth grade of ‘Stanko Rakita’ Primary School Banja Luka; Lana Regojević, student of theseventh grade of ‘Branko Ćopić’ Primary School in Banja Luka; Mirko Ajder, student of the ninth grade of ‘Jovan Dučić’ Primary School in Banja Luka.


Special awards for creativity were presented to: Aleksej Čutura, student ofthe eighth grade of ‘P. P. Njegoš’ Primary School in Banja Luka; Anita Bjelivuk, student of the ninth grade of ‘P. P.
