August Marked by Chinese Culture Workshops

In August 2024, the representatives of the Confucius Institute at the University of Banja Luka held workshops on Chinese calligraphy and paper cutting art, as part of the "Chinese Culture Days" in Bijeljina and the "Creative August" festival in Banja Luka.

On 5 August, a Chinese Culture Day was organized for preschool children in the Bijeljina City Park, where the Chinese representatives of the Confucius Institute presented the Chinese calligraphy, Chinese characters and words, the art of paper cutting and making of decorations, as well as other aspects of the Chinese culture. They also had the opportunity to participate in a workshop on the traditional Chinese martial art of Tai Chi, organized that day for the general public.

Later that month, on 15 August, Chinese culture workshops were also organized in Banja Luka, as part of the "Creative August" Festival of the "Zdravo da ste" Citizens' Association, which was held in the "Mladen Stojanović" Park.

Although it is now widespread throughout the world, only the Chinese art of paper cutting has been inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. This art in China is over 1,500 years old and represents the cultural values of the Chinese people, as well as the Chinese calligraphy, or the art of Chinese writing, which has been considered a supreme art in China since ancient times.
