TaiChi in the Daily Center for the Elderly in Banja Luka

At the proposal of the President of Executive Board of the Daily Center for the Elderly Association in Banja Luka Dubravka Milobara, representatives of the Confucius Institute at the University of Banja Luka visited the Daily Center for the Elderly on 17 October 2018, with the aim to present TaiChi to them and the advantages it has on human physical and mental health.


Professor of the Confucius Institute Gao Yang explained to the gathered group of older people, members of the Daily Center, that in China it is not unusual to see older people practicing TaiChi in city parks and that they believe that it is very important to practice regularly because of the benefits it has on their physical and mental health.


She invited them to try some of the movements together with her and feel the effects of this very useful exercise.


During the practicing along with calm Chinese music in the background, Gao explained that when practicing with an instructor one may feel the muscles strengthening over time, and may also achieve inner piece as well as get rid of the daily stress and pressures.

The members of the Daily Center liked TaiChi very much and expressed the desire to practice it once a week with the representative of the Confucius Institute.


ТaiChi is a Chinese martial art, with a history of over 600 years, which is practiced nowadays all over the world for its health benefits. Practicing TaiChi is good for the physical and mental health, alike. It is suitable for people of different ages, gender, and physical conditions. It is particularly suitable for older people because of its slow, coordinated and relaxed movements.


The 17th of October is celebrated as the Day of Pensioners in China.
