The Confucius Institute at University of Banja Luka Visited the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Srpska


On 24th September 2018, Dane Malesevic, Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Srpska, talked with Ljiljana Stević and Ying Cai, directors of the Confucius Institute at the University of Banja Luka, about the Institute's activities and plans for the period to follow. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Radmila Pejic, Assistant Minister of Higher Education, and Novica Mitrovic, Head of the Cabinet of Ministers.


Minister Malesevic praised the good cooperation with the Embassy of China in Bosnia and Herzegovina and reminded that the Chinese language is studied optionally in some elementary schools. He expressed his support for the work of the Confucius Institute.


Director Ying Cai said that Confucius Institute organizes free Chinese language and culture classes for pre-school, primary and secondary school children, students, as well as those interested in learning Chinese language and learning about traditional Chinese culture. She stated that the Chinese language classes have been organized since April this year and four months later 165 attendees completed the initial level of the course.


Director Ljiljana Stević presented the possibility of introducing the Chinese language as the second foreign language in the renown Grammar School in Banja Luka, and she emphasized the cooperation with the Faculty of Philology of the University of Banja Luka as well as the introduction of Chinese language as an elective course with ECTS points.


Confucius Institute at the University of Banja Luka made significant contribution to the promotion of Chinese tradition and culture in the Republic of Srpska. Moreover, the importance of the Confucius Institute from the economic point of view was emphasized, through the support of economic cooperation, as well as the mutual exchange of culture, tradition and language.
