Workshops Held in Honour of the Chinese New Year

During the Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival, which lasted from 1 to 14 February 2022, various workshops were organized at Banja Luka Grammar School and Doboj School of Economics in honour of this most important holiday in China.

On this occasion, students of Doboj School of Economics and School of Catering learned to tie red Chinese knots, which symbolize happiness and prosperity in China, and to make paper lanterns, which are especially important in this country during the holidays, as it is believed that wishes written on the surface of paper lanterns, which are then lit and released into the sky, will come true during the year.

The students of the Catering School also prepared the Chinese tea ceremony, which is a very important element of Chinese traditional culture, especially on festive occasions, as well as cookies that are traditionally prepared for those occasions.

In addition to making lanterns and learning about the symbolism and significance of the Chinese New Year and the Chinese zodiac, Banja Luka Grammar School students had fun in the Confucius Classroom making tiger masks together with the artist Aleksandar Škorić. The tiger mask workshop was organized for the students of this school in honour of the Year of the Tiger, who in this way celebrated the end of the Spring Festival.

Today, the Chinese New Year is not only celebrated in China, it is celebrated in many cities around the world in the form of various traditional and modern cultural and artistic events, thus providing an opportunity for other nations to feel the charm of Chinese tradition and culture.
