Grammar School Students Marked the International Chinese Language Day
21.04.2026.
On 21 April 2026, the Confucius Institute at the University of Banja Luka organised an interactive Chinese calligraphy class at the Banja Luka Grammar School.
The many students that signed up for this class, which was held in honour of the International Chinese Language Day, had the opportunity to do something new, interesting and challenging. Together with the Chinese language teachers Wang Yi Han and Ren Zixuan, they learned how to write Chinese characters and their names in Chinese with gentle strokes of brush and ink, thus discovering the elegance and discipline behind one of the oldest and most beautiful writing traditions in the world.

The United Nations celebrates the Chinese Language Day on April 20 to honour Cang Jie, the legendary creator of Chinese characters. Established in 2010 by UNESCO, this day highlights Chinese as one of the UN's six official languages (since 1946) and a working language (since 1973), recognised for its role in global cultural diversity.
