Lecture on Chinese Gardens and the Great Wall of China

18.11.2025

On 13 November 2025, the lecture entitled "Chinese Gardens and the Great Wall of China" was held at the Faculty of Philology, University of Banja Luka, by Assistant Professor Marijanca Ajša Vižintin, PhD, from the Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Ljubljana.

The lecture, which was held in English, was jointly organised by the Confucius Institute and the Faculty of Philology of the University of Banja Luka, in honour of 50 years of successful work and existence of the University of Banja Luka.

During her presentation, prof. Vižintin talked about her one-month stay in Beijing, Hangzhou, Suzhou and Shanghai in the People's Republic of China in 2024, sharing with professors and students of the Sinology Study Programme her observations about the culture, architecture and way of life in these cities.

In her presentation, she addressed the similarities and differences in culture and customs, as well as the possibilities of integration of people from Europe and other parts of the world who decide to spend part of their lives in China. She especially referred to the topic of Chinese gardens in urban areas, which represent a symbol of balance between nature and modern life, but also to architectural and historical landmarks, among which she highlighted the magnificent Great Wall of China.

After the lecture, Sinology students had the opportunity to share their views and experiences from their study stays in this Far Eastern country, which further enriched the conversation and brought Chinese culture closer to the young researchers.
